family road trip day two

Evie's first night in a motel, what a milestone! haha. (This place reminded me of Bottle Rocket.) She slept really well, especially when I was in bed with her. We had two beds, so for hers we rolled blankets and put them under the sheets to keep her from rolling off. I went back and forth between the two :)
Here is Josh taking all of our things back out to the car in one trip. I thought it was pretty funny. Each morning at the motels, we would use the little plastic cups that they stocked by the ice bucket to eat our cereal. We had some milk in drink boxes and the bamboo spoon that Russell gave me.

Our first planned stop was a picnic spot near a little lake and the Pony Express monument. It was extremely windy though! We had some tortilla chips and looked around, then went across the street to Subway instead.

We were thinking of stopping to see the Fort Cody Trading Post, a tourist general store type of thing with a giant mountain man sign, but we passed the sign and realized we'd missed the exit plus Evie was still sleeping, so we kept driving instead.

I had Josh take this picture especially for my dad. He took me to see trains when I was 3 or 4, so we have some family photos of me doing this as a child; I wanted him to see his granddaughter doing the same thing.

We kept thinking, "where is all the corn? I thought we were going to see never-ending fields of corn..." Around about the same time, we both realized that, as it was spring, the corn was only about two inches high. So on the way back we should have those classic corn field pictures.

Daddy likes milk too! and tie dye. The other thing we had wanted to see this day was the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island; it sounded really cool. However, we kept forgetting that things close. To us, all the time seemed pretty much the same, driving, taking breaks, eating, etc. This museum had closed around 4, so we ate at a little diner and listened to the truckers behind us talk about their views on marriage instead.

We had been looking forward to swimming because this night's motel had an indoor pool. Upon arriving, we got in our suits and went downstairs to find that, keeping in line with the trend of the day, the pool was closed for the night. So we splashed in the tub instead. It was a fun day.
